Les Cayes, Haiti, is where Hospitals of Hope's groundbreaking 'Clinic In A Can' was born. This self-contained medical and dental clinic, ingeniously housed within a 48-foot semi-trailer donated by the Love Box Company, originated in response to the 2010 earthquake that rocked Haiti.
Inspired by the tragic story of a Kenyan family's ordeal in getting medical care for a loved one, our founder, Michael Wawrzewski, embarked on a mission to create a solution. The result was the 'Clinic In A Can,' a portable clinic that could be built in Wichita and shipped to regions in need worldwide. Collaborating with Jean Eustache, a Haitian-born nurse from Wichita, and with the dedicated efforts of supporters Kyle Stevens and Myron Smith, the first Clinic In A Can was realized after three years of design and construction.
Today, the 'Clinic In A Can' initiative continues to thrive in Haiti, providing vital medical facilities where they are needed most, especially in times of disaster or limited resources.
